GIGAN TRIVIA!

Gigan was redesigned by the late Yasushi Nirasawa

According to interviews, Dir. Ryuhei Kitamura was particularly enthusiastic with the way it turned out. Kitamura later went on to accuse fans of not being grateful enough for Gigan’s update.

Kitamura also said Gigan was one of his favorites, only second to King Caesar. He listed Gigan as one of the monsters Final Wars had to have no matter what.

Shinichi Wakasa described Gigan’s design as being influenced by cyberpunk aesthetics, and compared his ability to switch out his weapons to that of the Predator.

Gigan's design was purported to also be influenced by bondage fashion in the Final Wars Supercomplete Works.

Gigan's shoulder/hip armor was designed to look like sleeves as a callback to the original 1972 Gigan, who's design took inspiration from kimonos.

The idea for Gigan's modified look came from Kitamura, who requested Nirasawa give him chainsaw arms.

Originally, Mummified Gigan was meant to be in a crucifixion pose as a reference to Silence of the Lambs. This was ultimately deemed too silly and scrapped.

In earlier drafts for Final Wars' script, Gigan was intended to shear off two of Mothra's legs. This was ultimately changed to her wing the finished film.

Gigan was portrayed by Kazuhiro Yohsida, who also doubled as Hedorah.

Three Gigan suits were used for the film; one for close-ups, one for action scenes, and one for the mummified appearance. They were built by Startrain.

Gigan's suits were able to be taken apart and put back together to portray either his original or Modified forms.

Modified Gigan’s Bloody Chainsaws were moved by internal motors built into the suit.

Gigan’s team up with Monster X closely parallels their previous alliance in Godzilla vs Gigan, with how they initially gain the advantage by tag-teaming Godzilla, only for Gigan to be tricked into hitting his comrade.
